#7 “Road trips are the equivalent of human wings. Ask me to go on one, anywhere. We’ll stop in every small town and learn the history and stories, feel the ground and capture the spirit. Then we’ll turn it into our own story that will live inside our history to carry with us, always. Because stories are more important than things.” – Victoria Erickson

#10 “The greatest legacy we can leave our children is happy memories.” – Og Mandino

When your kids will be grown up, I am pretty sure they won’t remember all of their toys from childhood.

But I assume they will remember all the joyful moments you built up for them.

So one of your main goals as a parent is to provide your children with the best adventures, activities, and views they will remember for a lifetime.

Traveling with them will make it much easier for you.

When I was traveling in the Caribbean, I met a Polish couple who had an awesome family vacation with their 5-years-old boy. They all were very adventurous, and I was surprised how open-minded and brave their little son was. I am more than convinced he will remember our common trip into the jungle to discover the secret waterfall. That’s the memory worth creating.

#14 “You don’t have to go far from home with your kids. Spend some time with them because they see things in amazing new ways.”

#15 “Having kids is a reason to travel, never a reason to stop.”

I always get confused when I talk to young parents and they say “we’d love to go for a vacation but we need to wait until kids will be older”.

And then I say whaaaat?

Maybe I shouldn’t say a word on this subject because I don’t have my own kids yet. But I deeply believe that those people limit themselves on their own wish.

I remember the times when my younger sister was born. I was 6 years old then. And sure, our parents didn’t take us for many trips abroad cause many reasons. But it didn’t stop them from taking us somewhere every holiday weekend. We were enjoying beaches of Polish coasts, having campings with campfires in many awesome places and were visiting castles and other local attractions in many places in Poland.

And it all started when my sister was only a few months old!

Today, people used to think that traveling with children is difficult and requires a lot of gear and preparation. But in fact, I think we should travel even more when kids are young. For them traveling will be the best school of life where they’ll learn respect, resourcefulness, and courage.

Having kids is a reason to travel never a reason to stop

#16 “To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” – Bill Bryson

#17 “Every man can transform the world from one of monotony and drabness to one of excitement and adventure.” – Irving Wallace

#18 “Life is better barefoot.”

#19 “If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine. It’s lethal.” – Paulo Coelho

#20 “Travel is the healthiest addiction.”

Parents are indirectly responsible for the passions of their children. Sure, school, friends, and even social media today have a big influence on young souls. But it’s parents’ choices which shape the interests of kids from the earliest age.

You have a few options here. You can let your child do whatever it wants during the whole of its childhood and don’t care too much about its free time. On the other hand, you can fill its schedule with tons of classes, activities, sports, language lessons, ballet, or science groups.

In the first case, you might end up with an adolescent having no interests besides hanging out with his friends and doing whoever knows what. In the second situation, you might create a frustrated person addicted to hard work and cultivating exuberant ambitions.

That are worst cases of course.

But if you’ll familiarize your little bairn with the wonders of traveling, you’ll be sure it will find its own life path.

If done well, traveling opens the mind, teaches respect for the environment and other cultures, and helps children become responsible and self-reliant adults in a longer perspective.

Together with your children, you can remind this collection of family travel quotes to remember the importance of discovering the world.

#24 “A journey is best measured in friends, rather than miles.” – Tim Cahill

#25 “Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.”

All those fancy toys or fashionable outfits for your child are worth nothing. Unless you want to cause neighbors’ jealousy. Which is trivial in fact.

The only thing that makes us really rich is knowledge and inner wisdom. And the best way to gain them is to travel and learn form all the lived adventures.

Traveling doesn’t need to be expensive. In fact, experiencing camping will teach your children much more than staying in a luxury hotel. Both forms are ok, of course, but the most important thing that your kids should learn during traveling is being autonomous, creative, and respectful.

Let’s be honest, spending time together as a family is not only miracles, honey, and nuts. As family members, we often annoy each other and it’s totally normal for everyone.

But thanks to traveling we can spend this time in surprisingly new ways. And even if there will be some relation troubles, we’ll learn new things about each other.
